The Smooth Haired Dachshund is the original Dachshund variety β the breed from which all others were developed. With their distinctive long body, short legs, and alert expression, the smooth Dachshund is one of the most recognisable dogs in the world. Developed in Germany to hunt badger underground, they are bold, determined, and independent β loyal to their family and full of character. The standard variety is larger than the miniature and retains more of the original working dog capability.
