Character
What is the Hungarian Greyhound like?
The Hungarian Greyhound β Magyar AgΓ‘r β is one of Hungary’s ancient sighthound breeds, developed for coursing hare and fox across the Hungarian plains. Similar in type to the Greyhound but with a slightly more robust build, the Hungarian Greyhound is fast, athletic, and possesses the characteristic gentle nature of sighthounds. They are loyal to their family while maintaining the independence and reserve typical of primitive sighthound breeds. Though virtually unknown outside Hungary and specialist circles, they are capable dogs with a devoted following among sighthound enthusiasts.
Social Skills
Hungarian Greyhound with Other Dogs
Hungarian Greyhounds are typically gentle with other large dogs but their prey drive means small dogs and animals require careful management. They are affectionate with their family and reserved with strangers. Their sensitivity means they do best in calm, stable environments. Early socialisation is important to build appropriate confidence. Like all sighthounds, their exercise must be managed in secure areas.
Grooming Guide
How to Groom a Hungarian Greyhound
The Hungarian Greyhound’s short, dense coat is minimal maintenance. Weekly wiping with a rubber mitt removes loose hairs. Bathing every ten to twelve weeks is adequate. Their thin skin means they are susceptible to cold and require coats in winter. Nails must be kept trimmed. Professional grooming for a bath, nail clip, and ear clean every ten weeks is adequate.
