What is the Hungarian Puli like?

The Hungarian Puli is one of the most extraordinary-looking dogs in the world β€” their remarkable white corded coat gives them the appearance of a large animated mop. Beneath those dramatic cords is a compact, energetic, and highly intelligent sheepdog that has protected Hungarian flocks for centuries. Pulik are devoted to their family, excellent watchdogs, and capable of impressive athleticism. They are lively, loyal, and sometimes wilful β€” a breed unlike any other.
Social Skills

Hungarian Puli with Other Dogs

Pulik are devoted to their family while being naturally alert and wary of strangers. They are generally good with other dogs when well socialised. Their herding instinct may lead them to attempt to round up children and animals. They are excellent watchdogs and will alert enthusiastically to anything unfamiliar. Early socialisation develops well-rounded confidence.
Grooming Guide

How to Groom a Hungarian Puli

The Puli’s corded coat requires specialist knowledge and significant time commitment. Cords begin forming at around nine months and take two or more years to fully develop. The cords must be separated by hand regularly to prevent matting at the base. Bathing takes considerable time and the coat requires hours to dry thoroughly. Only specialist groomers familiar with corded coats should handle professional grooming. The coat must never be brushed once cords have formed.
