The Kooikerhondje is a charming Dutch sporting spaniel with a distinctive orange-red and white coat adorned with black ear tips. They were traditionally used to lure ducks into cage traps β kooien β using their bushy, white-tipped tail. Nearly extinct after World War II, the breed was carefully reconstructed and is now protected and celebrated in the Netherlands. Kooikers are lively, cheerful, and alert β good-natured dogs that are affectionate with their family while being initially selective with strangers. They are intelligent, trainable, and have a surprising aptitude for dog sports.
