Segugio Italiano

The Segugio Italiano — or Italian Hound — is one of Italy’s most ancient breeds, with origins tracing back to the Egyptian hounds of antiquity brought to Italy by Phoenician traders. Depicted in Renaissance paintings, this elegant, medium-sized scent hound was used to hunt wild boar and hare across the Italian countryside. They come in both short-haired and wire-haired varieties. The Segugio is gentle, loyal, and affectionate — more tractable than many scent hounds while retaining the independence and determination of the trail. They are gaining recognition in the UK for their versatility and pleasant temperament.
